Anyone can participate in the activities and worship at First Presbyterian Church.
However, some people decide to make a more formal and public commitment to the life of the congregation by becoming members.
In the PC(USA), there are a few different kind of members:
Baptized Members are people who have been baptized, in this congregation or elsewhere, but have not made a formal profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Baptized members receive all benefits of church participation, and may participate in Communion.
Active Members are people who have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, been baptized, and have met with the session to be approved as members. Active members may vote in congregational meetings and be elected to leadership in the church.
Affiliate Members are people who are active members of other churches who have temporarily moved to our area and want to be received by the session as members for time they live here. Affiliate members may not vote in congregational meetings or be elected to leadership, but can participate in all other ways.
There are three ways to become an active member of the church:
1)Express profession of faith to the session, who votes on and approves the person for membership.
2)Transfer of membership from another Christian church, approved by the session.
3)Reaffirmation of faith for those already baptized and having publicly professed faith.
If you are interested in, or have questions about membership, please don’t hesitate to speak to a session member or Rev. Berger.
